Football Coaching
Resource News - New Football Playbook app for Apple's iPad
"Rather than having to search for plays drawn on napkins or filed in three-ring binders, this puts everything in one place. The idea is to let coaches spend more time developing football players and less time designing plays."
Coach Charlie Coiner
Founder, 1st Down Technologies
Assistant coach for the NFL's Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears, and the University of North Carolina.
Football coaches who have owned Apple's iPad and
experienced frustration at the lack of football
coaching-specific apps may just have had their prayers answered in
the form of a new, free football playbook app, courtesy of
1st
Down Technologies . Founded by Coach Charlie
Coiner, a career football coach with over 25 years
of experience in the NFL and at the Division 1 Collegiate
level, 1st Down Technologies was formed to develop The First Down
Playbook - an interactive app for Apple's wildly successful iPad tablet computer.
The
FirstDown Playbook
can be expanded to include up to 2,600 offensive plays used by
college and professional football teams, and is aimed at football coaches at all levels, from youth leagues to the pros.
Launched officially at the 2012 AFCA Convention, the FirstDown Playbook
can be used in a number of ways, including as an instant-access,
mobile reference tool for offensive systems and plays, or as
a creative resource to help a coach develop his or her own playbook.
With The FirstDown Playbook app, the first 50 plays are free, and
the full play library ..2600 plays in all, can be added for only $19.99!
The
FirstDown PlayBook app lets teams
browse through plays, tag and save favorite plays, create customized playbooks and
even share plays through email. A filter lets youth league coaches select from plays that are designed to match the physical ability and maturity level of their players.
